We provide instrumentation and techniques for extended in vitro perfusion of the isolated mouse heart.

The isolated coronary-perfused mouse heart is the perfect assay to determine the effects of genes and drugs on heart function independent of systemic effects. The EverBeatTM mouse heart perfusion system is compact, portable, and quickly sets up on YOUR lab bench. The system provides constant flow of physiological buffer at controlled temperatures. A balloon catheter connected to a high-fidelity pressure transducer records left ventricular pressure for determining numerous cardiac functional indices, including heart rate, systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, dP/dtmax, and dP/dtmin.

Stable long duration perfusions (up to 6 hours) provide the opportunity to study the effects of drugs and examine gene expression while reducing the numbers of mice needed.

Applications:
  • GPCR knockout and transgenic mice
  • Heart failure mouse models
  • Ischemia and reperfusion injury
  • Myocardial stunning and hibernation
  • Inotropic and lusitropic drugs
  • Effects of human plasma and complement activity
The instrumentation for long stable perfusion of mouse hearts has been described in several publications. Click here to see list of publications.
